China from the eyes of an Undergrad.

A Picture of the Financial Hub of China, Shanghai

In my fourth year at BITS Pilani, I got a chance to visit Silicon Valley for a 15-day student startup exposure program. It was an amazing learning opportunity. Being a gadget lover, I was fascinated by Mr. Sijo’s description of China. That intrigued me to explore more about the country. Finally, I sat with my friend Sugam Singla (APM at Groww) and decided to travel to China in December of 2019, before joining CRED

Disclaimer: I traveled to all the major cities like Guangzhou, Shenzhen, Shanghai, and Beijing. So my perspective might be skewed towards these types of cities.

A few of my friends asked me to share my learnings and thoughts about China. Although a lot of these observations are around business, a few are also about the Chinese culture and things I found interesting. So here it goes:

One important thought that I didn’t add to the above list is that everyplace I visited in China, the female working proportion was almost equal to men. China’s women employment participation is 64%, which is even more than Norway and Sweden’s participation rate. The female working population is instrumental to a country’s growth, and is something which is fundamentally required for development. This is one area where we can improve a lot.

I really believe everyone should travel to China at least once in their lives.

Hope you enjoyed my thoughts on China :)
