A Week of Thanks and Sorrow

Week 18 of my photo a day challenge, feeling grateful

Last week was Thanksgiving week and I enjoyed reading everyone’s pieces on their many reasons to be grateful. It’s interesting that we often save our reflections for this time of year when we could benefit from them on a daily basis.

This top photo is a window and planter box my husband put in our little shed in the backyard. I love the reflection of the tree captured here.

On Monday I was out looking for more signs of fall holdouts and came across this tree clinging to its leaves deep in the middle of all the many naked trees.

The Oak Leaf Hydrangea has developed a leathered look to its leaves which are usually gone by this time of year.

I visited my family in North Carolina for the holiday, for the first time since before Covid started and since our mother died shortly before the outbreak. This is a photo driving there from Georgia, just over the state border into South Carolina.

This is the property that was next to my mother's home, she loved sitting out on the little deck my husband made for her. It was so peaceful and relaxing out there. She would sit out on nice mornings and evenings reading and enjoying the view. When I was younger we spent a lot of time apart because of my parent's divorce. Later we both tried to make up for that lost time, as people often do. I’m grateful we came back together, she was a very special person, not just as a mother.
