Shallow Ground

There we stood hand in hand, walking together as we always have

When they were small enough that she was the tough one,

they walked hand in hand,

sneakers with matching scuff marks,

they ran through life together

facing everything together,

they grew up,

she spent her days playing ball with the boys,

while he had his computers,

they met again,

in high school, but now it seemed they were both

on opposite sides of a story,

he was suddenly the jock,

playing with balls,

while her head was in books and computers,

they spent many days apart,

wondering what the other one was doing,

until one day, they parted for what seemed like forever

until they met one fated day

and found themselves aligned with

each other,

falling in love

despite being friends for so long,

now they stood hand in hand with sneakers

on their wedding day,

making all their families wonder what took so long,

but that was the way of the world,

was it not?

Never seeing what is clearly right in front of you the

entire time.
