BE A CHANGE TO BRING THE CHANGE

Every time something is happening all around the world. This regularity states that people are prone to justice. They are well aware of what is wrong, what is right, what is needed, and what should be done. But do they really conform to those thoughts? They are aware of what their rights and duties are as human beings. But do they really follow them? For the unjust system and policies, people can come out on the streets in a no. of thousands, but do all of them have the same mindset concerning that issue?

No, definitely not.

I am quite sure about the fact that, among the people who participate in such protests, especially via social media, most of them are just in because it is trending. People are feeding their timelines with quotes of justice, justice, justice, that how the helpless are suffering. But is it enough?

For example, not too long ago, in the United States, there’s an upheaval going on due to the heart-wrenching death of a black guy (George Floyd) by four white cops. The video of cops pinning him down for like 9 minutes until he became unconscious, despite him pleading, again and again, had gone viral and people all across the world have been talking about such incidents and wanting justice. This pinning action is justified when the culprit is resisting a lot. But in this case, he wasn’t even a culprit yet. There’ve been revolts everywhere in the US because it was no ordinary death. It’s a clear act of racial discrimination.

When the people in power act this heinously, then it is a must to change the system.

America had been a hub of legalized racial discrimination between blacks and whites for so long which led to one of the most important civil rights movements in the world by African Americans. Even though the legalized discrimination had been demolished but the discrimination is still going on in one or another form everywhere.

So if we are talking about the discrimination done by those white cops and wanting justice, are you sure that you are one of the many who is worthy to ask for justice? Are you sure that you haven’t done or witnessed any discrimination being silent in your own country?

Think about it and you will find that you are no clean chit.

We are so much curious and furious about the American system but how much are you sure of your own system?

Discrimination is not just based on skin color, it can be in any form. Be it based on gender, financial class, caste, religion, and even based on an individual’s physical features be it height, or any disorder. If your friend looks different from you because she/he belongs to another part of your country, you have no right to make fun of her/his looks, even though you are just joking around. You can’t call someone by name because he/she is fat, skinny, or short-heightened, etc. You absolutely have no right to make fun of something that the individual isn’t responsible for. No one enjoys being a target even if it’s your friend.

If we want to demand justice for George Floyd, first make sure that you abide by those principles. Watch yourself and around you, you will witness a lot of discrimination daily. Try to change your perspective first and bring small changes first. I know it’s easier said than done and for me too.

Be aware of yourself, be empathetic for the helpless, be humble and polite, and respect others’ choices. Don’t be a part of hatred, not even unknowingly. Be a positive influencer, try to see everyone as equals in your mind first, and then think about changing society.

Most of us can do this by sharing such thoughts explicitly through social platforms then why not do it in a very efficient manner.

You can bring the change if you can be the change.

While you are wiping and sanitizing everything around you, be sure to wipe out the hatred and prejudice out of your heart.
