Rise Up
Rise Up is a chant that I am very familiar with and many other NFL fans should be familiar with as well. As a Falcons fan, we use the chant Rise Up anytime that we are loosing the game or needing to overcome something specific in that game. Rise up is also another lyric in one of my favorite songs. The song goes on to say how no matter how broken down and tired you are you will rise up.
“Just like moons and like suns,
With the certainty of tides,
Just like hopes springing high,
Still I’ll rise.”
This is a stanza taking out of the poem “Still I Rise” one of Maya Angelou’s most famous pieces of work. Maya Angelou is a very influential African American poet. All throughout this poem Angelou has multiple examples of how she has to rise above an occasion. No matter how tough things get in life “Still I Rise”. There are many lessons that are taught in the poem the main lesson is to rise above all occasions no matter the circumstance. Another message that is hidden within this poem is the strength of the African American community, specifically the women. The African American community is always under attack no matter if the year is 1940 or 2020, there is always a target on our back. No matter how much a black person tries, whatever they do will always have to be ten times better than the next person just because of the color of their skin.
Rising above all the odds no matter what is one of the best things you can do in life. You should NEVER give up!!! There will be many trials and tribulations among the way but you should always remember to “Rise Up” no matter what!!
